Frequently asked questions
Ratings
How do I rate a game?
Vote up or down on the game’s page. Voting unlocks once you have played enough of that game and built up a playing history across spiced.gg. Spiced Plus members can skip the account history requirement, but still need to play the game before voting. We keep the exact requirements private to help prevent fake accounts from manipulating ratings. Demo playtime doesn’t count toward either requirement.
What does the star score mean?
It’s calculated from players’ up and down votes, with an adjustment so a handful of votes has less influence than a larger set. A game nobody has voted on shows no score.
Can I change my vote?
Yes. You get one vote per game, and changing it replaces your previous vote. You can remove your vote at any time, even if you no longer meet the voting requirements.
Why can’t I vote on my own game?
Developers can’t vote on their own listings.
Spice
What is Spice?
A reward you earn by playing. It isn’t money: Spice has no cash value, and can’t be sold, traded or cashed out.
How do I earn Spice?
Finishing a session pays 5 Spice, the first play of a game each day pays 10, and reaching an in-game milestone pays 15. Each game caps out at 100 Spice a day for paid games, 30 for free and Spice-only ones. Reaching a new level pays 25 on top of those caps. What you earn is yours right away.
Can I buy Spice with real money?
You can’t buy Spice directly. You earn it by playing, and a Spiced Plus membership includes a fixed grant of 200 Spice each month.
What can I spend Spice on?
Games and items, where the developer accepts it. Not everything has a Spice price; the ones that do show it beside the cash price on the game’s page. See Redeem Spice.
You can also donate Spice to a free game’s developer, from that game’s page. Donations don’t unlock games or items.
Can I earn Spice by playing my own games?
No. Playing a game you published yourself never earns Spice, and you can’t redeem it against your own games or items, or donate it to your own games either. Spice that players spend on your games and items, or donate to them, goes to your balance.
Spiced Plus
What is Spiced Plus?
An optional $4.99/month membership. It grants 200 Spice every month, opens the Beta Zone so you can play games while they are still being tested, keeps free games playable if they hit a bandwidth cap, lets you vote without waiting for your account to build up a playing history, and adds a member badge.
Does Plus affect ratings or rankings, or unlock paid games?
No. A member can vote sooner, but a member’s vote counts exactly the same as anyone else’s and still needs real playtime in the game. Plus has no effect on rankings, and it doesn’t include access to paid games or items.
Can I join now?
Yes. Join from the Spiced Plus page. Billing runs through Stripe and you can cancel any time.
Leveling & XP
How do I level up?
You earn XP by playing: a finished session is worth 10 XP, the first qualifying activity on a game you haven’t played before is worth 20, an in-game milestone is worth 25, and your first vote on a game is worth 15. Every 1,000 XP is another level.
What do levels unlock?
Each new level earns you 25 Spice as a one-time reward. Your level and XP appear on your profile, but you don’t need a particular level to access platform features.
Do my own games earn me XP?
No. Playing a game you published yourself doesn’t earn XP or Spice.
Achievements
What achievements are there?
Platform achievements for playing, voting and reaching milestones. Each one awards XP when you earn it, and new ones are added over time. See your progress on the Achievements page.
Do individual games have their own achievements?
Not yet. Only the platform’s own achievements exist today.
