Build words across and down on a nine-by-nine grid by placing letter tiles. Every tile scores, and the colored squares on the board can boost your score, green dots multiply the letter, while purple diamonds multiply the whole word.

You get twelve turns and a rack of seven tiles.

You’ll also earn gold as you play. You get it for covering gold squares, using J, Q, X, or Z, and making words that are seven letters or longer. Gold can be spent on upgrades that change the board: turn an empty square gold, swap your rack, hold an eighth tile, or make gold squares pay double. Two of these upgrades can be purchased repeatedly, while the other two are one-time upgrades.

Everyone gets the same board and the same tile bag each day, so the daily challenge is fair for everyone. There’s also a practice board that’s always available and never ranked, giving you a chance to figure out where the multipliers are before using your daily run.

You can play entirely from the keyboard: type letters to place tiles, use the arrow keys to move, Tab to change direction, and Enter to score. Mouse and touchscreen controls work too.

The game uses a dictionary of 110,891 English words from ENABLE and SCOWL, so you’ll find everything from plurals and past tenses to plenty of newer words.
